Things I Watch
Bruno

[FILM] Well, what can you say about this film, really?  Sacha Baron Cohen will stop at nothing for his art.  The amount of lashings he took (literally) for staying in character was astounding.  The film was shocking and funny, but to be honest, I think it tried a little bit too hard to push the envelope.  I think the difference between Borat and Bruno is that Borat is a much more dynamic character when taken out of his element.  He isn’t just an interviewer anymore, he is his own person.  I could have watched an hour and a half alone of Bruno interviewing people and getting them to make asses of themselves (what he used to do on Da Ali G Show), but this wouldn’t have made for a compelling story, so they just added on excessive sex and nudity and a “love interest,” if you can call it that.  But Bruno isn’t as likeable a character as Borat - I always feel like Bruno should know better.  Funny, yes.  Shocking, yes.  A great movie?  Eh.  Not nearly as good as Borat.
